Beaches, Shopping, Golf and More
The South Maui area consists of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena – all remarkable visitor destinations. Among the various luxury real estate options in South Maui are many serene locations such as: miles of amazing white sand beaches, The Shops of Wailea, and the Wailea Golf Club.
South Maui Beaches
When searching for a beach to interest the whole family try one of the three Kamaole Beach Parks. Kamaole Beach Park is a set of three popular stretches of beach in the heart of Kihei. Kamaole III is the most popular of these three beaches. Although this beach is the shortest and least wide of the three it does have additional conveniences including an enormous grassy park area, a new playground, restroom facilities, and plenty of parking. As the shoreline continues South, the cushiony soft sand of Keawakapu beach makes for a delightful spot for sunrise yoga or a romantic sunset beach stroll. Further South is Wailea Beach, named “America’s Beast Beach,” and another admired location with a paved beach walk winding between the luxury resorts, restaurants, and sandy coves.
For those who appreciate snorkeling, Palauea Beach (White Rock) may be a desired spot in the midst of rocky outcroppings at both ends of the beach. Palauea Beach is a wide, crescent shaped stretch of sand hidden from the road by a small kiawe forest and surrounded by custom built private beachfront residences. Furthest South, Makena (Oneloa) Beach, also known as “Big Beach,” is one of the island’s best and largest beaches, nearly two-thirds of a mile long and 100 yards wide. This setting offers unmatched water for snorkeling or swimming, picnic or sunbathing weather, and enjoyment for all. Now all you have to do is choose which beach to enjoy first.
The Shops of Wailea
The Shops at Wailea offer elegant shopping and dining; with more than 70 distinct boutiques (Blue Ginger, Cos Bar, Enchantress Boutique, and Tommy Bahamas), luxury brands and accessories (Baron & Leeds, Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co.), restaurants (Longhi’s, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and Tommy Bahamas Restaurant & Bar), and art galleries (Art of Peter Max Gallery, Ki’i Gallery, and Lahaina Galleries). “Wailea on Wednesdays” is a signature event hosted by The Shops of Wailea each Wednesday from 6:30-8pm. This weekly event is an arts and entertainment series featuring a spotlight artist; then further highlighted by art gallery receptionists, artist appearances, and one-night-only shop and restaurant specials. The Shops at Wailea provides a pleasant mix of chic shops and quality restaurants for locals and tourists alike.
Wailea Golf Club
The Wailea Golf Club offers the ability to play on a world class course in ideal golf weather. There are three championship golf courses to choose from: Gold, Emerald, and the Old Blue. The Wailea Golf Club is a prime location for everything from singles play to hosting your next corporate golf tournament. On-site amenities include club rentals, driving range, pro shop, golf lounge and snack bar. If you’re hungry for more than just a snack, consider dining at one of the course’s clubhouses: Gannon’s restaurant, conveniently located at the Gold and Emerald Clubhouse, offers the “best food and view on Maui.” While over at the Blue Clubhouse, Mulligans on the Blue, also serves up a number of fantastic dishes.
Both the Gold and Emerald courses were designed by architect, Robert Trent Jones II. With its notable rugged feel, centuries-old lava rock walls, and panoramic ocean views, the Gold Course creates a serene golfers paradise. The Gold course – known as “Wailea’s Rugged Beauty” and the “thinking player’s course,” – is the most difficult of all three courses, and is perfect for those up for the challenge. The Emerald course – known as “Wailea’s Tropical Playground” – is a great choice for players of all abilities. This course is bordered by a 2.7 million gallon water lake, offers carpet-like fairways, vibrant foliage, and abundant vistas of the Pacific Ocean and Mt. Haleakala. The Blue course – known as “Grand Lady of Wailea” – was designed by architect, Arthur Jack Snyder in 1972, with only minor changes since. This course is located on the leeward side of Haleakala, providing the best golf weather on the planet. This pristine golf club puts forward resort level service to help create unforgettable lasting impressions.
