Native Hawaiian Plants for Your Maui Home Landscaping

January 22, 2010

A native Hawaiian plant sale is being held by the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens on Saturday, the 30th of this month. The sale will take place in Kahului across from the War Memorial Stadium between 9a.m. and noon.

Why choose native Hawaiian plants to accent your home or for landscaping on your property? Well native plants are already adapted to the soil and weather conditions in many parts of Maui, so they will require minimal care and therefor, less monetary investment.

Aside from the financial benefits to you, the use of native Hawaiian plants is good for the ecology of the island. Another benefit to buying at this plant sale is that funds will help support ongoing conservation and educational programs hosted by the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens.

If you do come by the plant sale, you will have the opportunity to learn about water conservation, plant care and plant maintenance from the experts.

Many venders will participate in the sale, including: Native Nursery, Ho’olawa Farms, Kulamanu Farms, Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, New Moon Enterprises, Upcountry Natives and Maui Eko Compost. Some of the plants for sale will include banana and taro, ‘ohi’a, medicinal plants, ferns, mountain apple, ground covers, etc. There is no admission fee and parking is free as well.

If you need more information, you can find it here: www.mnbg.org or you can call 808-249-2798.
