Living on Maui comes with many benefits. Being able to enjoy a laid-back lifestyle where you can sit back and relax under a palm tree, with your favorite book overlooking the ocean while humpback whales gather in the distance is just one of the many reasons why we love living here. And on Maui, it’s all about that ocean lifestyle. So whether you live in an oceanfront or beachfront property, it’s always been and will forever be all about the ocean here. Which is why it’s even more important to protect this natural resource and the creatures that live in them because they are what make island living a true joy.

That’s why this week we are focusing on a special event that aims to raise awareness about one of the ocean’s most incredible species-the whales! On February 1st from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. you can join a team of do-gooders and run and walk for whales on Maui. Every year around 600 to 800 runners and walkers join forces on the island to participate in a solidarity run and walk for ocean conservation in celebration of the beloved humpback whales on Maui.

This run and walk event will be collecting donations for the Pacific Whale Foundation Research, Education and Conservation programs. These programs are important to our local community as they try to protect the ocean through science and proper advocacy. So if you enjoy living in the islands and being able to watch the humpback whales from your lanai each season, then why not show your support by participating in this special event. It is always a good time to do the right thing, so be pono (right) and offer a helping hand this season. Plus, you will enjoy the exercise so it’s a win, win for all!
