For those of you prospective Maui home buyers who have an interest in the island’s march toward sustainability, the recent news on electric vehicle charging stations may be worth knowing about.
Volta Industries LLC installs and maintains free-to-use electric vehicle charging stations that are supported by advertising. According to their recent statement, they have opened six stations in Honolulu, and are now planning their first station here in West Maui at the Whaler’s Village shopping center. This is exciting news not only because we represent West Maui real estate, but also because our main office is located in the very same shopping center.
Another benefit is that Volta Industries is based in Honolulu, so the profits from their business will help support the economy of our beautiful state. To top it off, they recently won the “Best in Small Business” honor from PBN Business Leadership Hawaii.
They plan to install 500 to 1,000 stations by the end of next year, and this is an attainable goal because they have installed stations not only on Oahu, but also in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Diego. They have given away over 600,000 miles of charging over the past two years via 20,000 free charging station sessions.
In a state where fuel is so expensive, the lure of free electric vehicle charging is profound. Consumers benefit, the environment benefits, and the company benefits. What more can we strive for? But electric vehicles still have a long way to go, with only 1,869 of them on the road on Oahu as of September. Still, it’s a step in the right direction, especially if the energy will be coming from sustainable sources moving forward.
We look forward to seeing how things progress for this company, and others within the electric vehicle industry. We hope you’ve found this interesting as well.
